Mike Root – Senior Manager, Course Director

Mike Root joined the Houston Marathon Committee Staff in August, 2017. Prior to joining the staff, Root was a 20-year volunteer with the Houston Marthon. During that tenure he held the roles of Course Setup Captain, George R. Brown (GRB) Reunion Hall Captain, GRB Security Captain and Downtown Director. In his spare time, he also volunteers for many other local Houston road races outside of the Chevron Houston Marathon weekend.

Root brings more than 33 years of experience gained from a career in Information Technology with Hewlett-Packard, Electronic Data Systems (EDS) and Avnet, Inc. to the HMC staff. A proud eighth generation Texan, Root graduated from the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service’s Institute for Electronic Science in 1982. He also attended The University of Texas at San Antonio, University of North Texas and the University of the Incarnate Word.
